The 64th edition of the Daytona 500 ended with the affirmation of the 23-year-old American Austin Cindric, winner of the 2022 edition in a race punctuated by accidents and twists to the checkered flag. Number 2 of the Penskemoreover in its debut from full-timer in the competition, he could not give a nicer birthday present to the founder of the team, Roger Penske, who was able to blow out 85 candles with success in one of the most historic and followed events in motorsport with stars and stripes.
A race conditioned by various cautions, many of which occurred during stage 1: the first episode that forced the race marshals to display the yellow flag was caused by the loss of a Kaz Grala tire, with the same wheel that hit Chase Briscoe’s car, damaging it. After the second caution triggered by Justin Haley, the protagonist of a contact against the barriers, the third accident saw a spectacular collision between Brad Keselowsky and Harrison Burton, with the latter having taken off without reporting, fortunately, any physical consequences.

However, the real twist occurred 10 laps from the end of the event: specifically, Kyle Larson hit Kevin Harvick, with the collision between the two generating a Big One which involved a total of six cars. An accident that prompted the Race Direction to exhibit the Red flag eight laps from the end, and a subsequent restart. At the start of the latter, the provisional leader of the race, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, collided with Bubba Wallace, also involving Chris Buescher in the clash. At that point, the Daytona 500 ended definitively atOvertimewith Cindric having managed to overtake Wallace at the photo finish, triumphing in front of the latter and Buescher, who reached the lowest step of the podium. In the numerous series of accidents, evidence of Jacques Villeneuve: the Canadian, who had accomplished the feat of qualifying from Daytona at the age of 50, was ranked at 22nd place final, moreover after having encountered a technical problem before the race that forced him to change the engine.
