Former Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced to another 4 years in prison for the crime of illegally importing walkie-talkies
The former Burmese leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi She was sentenced by a Myanmar court to another four years in prison on charges of illegal import and possession of walkie-talkies and violation of the provisions to contain coronavirus infections.
After the four years of detention, then reduced to two, for incitement to public unrest and violation of health regulations related to Covid imposed in December, this time the judges in the service of the dictatorial junta have issued a verdict of four years in prison for the crime of illegal importation of walkie-talkies.
The sentence was placed in the context of a wider “mock trial“at the end of which the political leader, who is 76 years old, could be sentenced to decades of years in prison. Arrested since the coup on February 1 last year, the Nobel Peace Prize winner had already been sentenced to two years at the beginning of December of imprisonment for inciting unrest and violation of restrictions imposed in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. 76-year-old Aung San Suu Kyi is also accused of corruption.
