After the beta closed last June, finally yesterday MultiVersus is back in its definitive version on PC and console, complete with a redone look and many new features and changes to gameplay and game systems. The reception, at least on Steam, seems to have been warm, so much so that they were registered over 100,000 concurrent players in the last 24 hours.
Specifically, we are talking about 114,515 contemporary users, almost 50% less than those registered at the launch of the beta two years ago, but it must be said that now the free-to-play fighting game cannot take advantage of the novelty effect, so let’s talk about numbers at least positive, even simply comparing them to other free-to-play games published in recent times.
Not everyone is happy with the new MultiVersus
If the attendance numbers are high, those of the reviews on Steam are not entirely positive. We’re far from full-blown review bombing, let’s be clear, but we’re still talking about only 65% positive comments since the relaunch of the stock which have lowered the average ratings of the last 30 days to “Average”.
The most widespread criticisms are related to some changes to the gameplay mechanics and monetization systems, apparently not appreciated by everyone. Still others cite camera problems, or a slower pace of playor even bugs, crashes and other flaws not present in the non-final version launched in 2022, so much so that he tells us that MultiVersus now “seems more like a beta than when it was in beta”.
“This game could have been amazing, but the decision to slow down the gameplay and NOT fix the beta bugs will be its downfall. What a shame.”, says DJSpaps.
“In beta, the game was reasonably fast, and while some things needed polishing, overall it was quite enjoyable to play. As it stands, the game feels even more unfinished than before, it introduced more paid currencies, and overall it’s much slower and less fun to play. I think there’s hope for this game, but honestly going back to beta would make it better than it is now.”
