The interurban public transport system allows greater mobility between the municipalities of the Northwest and Río Mula through the increase in frequencies and the creation of new routes
Movibus will notably increase the connections between the municipalities of the Northwest and Río Mula with the increase in frequencies and the creation of new routes between the localities that are adapted to the real mobility needs of the region, which will allow greater and better mobility and interrelation of its inhabitants.
The general director of Mobility and Coast, Marina Munuera, accompanied by the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Francisco García, presented today the novelties of the second phase of the implementation of the new system in the interurban transport concession for the Northwest Region and Rio Mula.
“The improvements that we introduce in Movibus have the objective of promoting sustainable and collective mobility through the adaptation of public transport services to the needs of citizens, so that it is a true alternative to the private vehicle,” said the director .
In the new regional transport system Caravaca de la Cruz will double the expeditions with Calasparra; It will almost triple the frequencies with Cehegín, reaching 252 weekly, and will quadruple the frequencies with Moratalla, from Monday to Friday, and, for the first time, it will have service on weekends.
Movibus creates a new connection between Cehegín, Moratalla and Calasparra, and the services established for Saturdays between Mula, Albudeite, Campos del Río, Alguazas and Molina de Segura are also new; and there will be more expeditions on Saturdays between Pliego, Fuente Librilla and Alcantarilla.
Also, more direct connections are established with the municipalities of the Northwest and the universities located in the city of Murcia. Thus, a new route is created between Caravaca, Cehegín, Bullas, Mula, Albudeite and Campos del Río with the Catholic University of San Antonio (UCAM) and more expeditions with the University of Murcia (UMU). In addition, Movibus creates a new direct line from the municipalities of Moratalla and Calasparra with the UMU, UCAM and the city of Murcia.
Participatory and progressive process
The meeting held today in Caravaca de la Cruz with the municipal representatives of the Northwest and Río Mula is part of the round of contacts being carried out by the General Directorate of Mobility, prior to the administrative processing of the regional intercity transport concession that will service in the region, in order to finalize the details and take into account at all times the contributions of the municipalities.
Munuera reported that the municipalities have already participated in the design of these new services that are part of the second phase of development of Movibus, which since December has already been implemented in the metropolitan areas of Murcia and Cartagena and this year addresses the six regional concessions remaining.
He recalled that the Community prepared in 2017 the Transport Master Plan for the Region of Murcia which, after an extensive process of participation and dialogue with all agents (municipalities, users and companies), proposes a total transformation of the transport model called Movibus.
