On November 21 the Formula 1 will land for the first time in its history in Qatar, with the Losail circuit which will host the third to last appointment of this season. The track, located in the town of Doha, has never hosted car events of great international importance – such as Formula 1 – but the same cannot be said for the world of two wheels. Not surprisingly, the Losail spotlights have always turned on not only to illuminate the track – since we have always run and will run at night – but also and above all to give MotoGP to compete in his own race valid for the Qatar Grand Prix, present in the calendar of the top motorcyclist competition since 2004.
In this way, the almost twenty-year-old and only liaison between MotoGP and Qatar will soon be partially broken by the entry of Formula 1. An inclusion that was welcomed not without some controversy by some riders on two wheels: Losail, having been designed specifically for motorcycle racing, is in fact undergoing some interventions structural that will allow the smooth and safe performance of the new Qatar Formula 1 GP, precisely for adapt the track to the latter series (which will then reappear from 2023 to 2033).
In this regard, there were in fact some observations on the part of Aleix Espargarò and Franco Morbidelli, respectively Aprilia and Yamaha riders, who expressed their concerns about the work in progress in Doha: “Formula 1 it will be able to destroy everything due to the aerodynamic load – commented the Spaniard a speedweek.com – I’m happy for the people in Qatar, who will be able to see Formula 1 and MotoGP on the same track. It must be said that the asphalt is very good and uniform, and I hope it will not be completely ruined ”. The Iberian driver’s statements are no different from those of Yamaha’s Roman colleague, who is also thoughtful about the potential changes that could occur with the arrival of Formula 1 cars: “The first thing I thought about the official nature of the news – Morbidelli added – is that more bumps would have formed. It is nice to see this championship engaged on the same track that we are also racing on. I love Formula 1 very much, I have followed it for a long time and it is impressive to notice how quickly they manage to cover the same curves that we face in the race ”.
