With just under half an hour to go until the end of the second day of MotoGP pre-season testing in Mandalika, Fabio Quartararo finished his lap in 1’31 ”564, which led him to take the lead in the timesheets. This was on his completed 66th lap of the day.
However, in the following minutes, the Frenchman saw how Luca Marini’s Ducati, Marc Marquez’s Honda and Maverick Vinales’ Aprilia had improved his time, without the Yamaha rider being able to respond in the following attempts. The reigning world champion thus ended his day of testing in Indonesia in fourth position, after completing 68 laps, the fastest of which put him at 275 thousandths behind Marini, leader of the second day.
“Ducati has eight bikes and all the riders go fast. I have to improve something in the fastest lap, because not only at the level I expected ”, Fabio Quartararo explained at the end of the day. The driver from Nice then added: “In terms of pace, I feel very good, I feel fast”.
Quartararo returned to take advantage of the opportunity to put pressure on Yamaha to improve the bike before the start of the season: “Clearly I expected an improvement on the bike and this makes my future open. I have to look at the best option for me ”.
The French also talked about the new Mandalika track, which divides the riders. The track is receiving criticism, but also praise from the drivers, who spent two days on it: “In terms of safety, it is one of the safest circuits. We will ask that the track be clean, because what we saw yesterday was very dangerous ”.
