The 2021 MotoGP world champion has warned Yamaha since last November that the development of the 2022 M1 was not on the right track. This complaint was not denied by the Japanese manufacturer and after the tests in Indonesia Fabio Quartararo had to wait until the first weekend of the season to understand the real level of the bike.
The result at the end of the first two free practice sessions of the Qatar Grand Prix was not to the liking of El Diablo.
“I was hoping for a better start. We lack grip. The general sensations are not negative, but I am very slow and that’s all ”declared Quartararo who today closed FP2 with the eighth fastest time and a gap of 474 thousandths from the time trial signed by Alex Rins.
On this track, in 2021, Fabio managed to win the second race of the year, but the conditions for this season do not seem identical at all.

“I don’t have the feeling I had last year. I hope Yamaha looks at what Suzuki has done with the engine, ”said the Frenchman after seeing how Rins achieved the best top speeds in both free practice sessions.
“I will not complain now and I will not complain until Valencia. There is nothing to do, but it is not normal to be 10 km / h slower ”underlined the world champion.
Quartararo therefore insisted on asking Yamaha for a drastic intervention. Today’s bitterness was amplified by the fact that Suzuki, which suffered the same top speed problem last year, was able to solve its problems.
“I didn’t expect Mir and Rins to be this fast from day one.”
