The French Yamaha rider finished the Mugello race very far from the leaders, while the gap from his teammate Alex Rins, who finished 15th, stood at around seven seconds. Fabio Quartararo’s race was affected by a physical problem, which did not prevent him from resisting for all 23 laps of the race.
“Since the middle of the race I’ve had problems with my arm. It’s not compartment syndrome, it’s just that my arm is at its limit on this type of circuit,” explained Quartararo, underlining the physical problems.
Quartararo underwent surgery for compartment syndrome in June 2019, when he arrived in MotoGP, and has already had problems with nerve pressure this year. “My muscle has no space and I have already been operated on twice”, recalled the transalpine driver.

For this reason Quartararo believes that it is not so much a specific physical problem of his, but rather derives more from the way he has to ride the new Yamaha, which is more aggressive and less gentle than in the past.
“There is something in this year’s bike that causes these problems. I think it could also be linked to the lack of grip,” was his explanation for the problems and the bad race at Mugello.
Yamaha carried out a private test at this circuit three weeks ago and, precisely for this reason, hoped for a more marked step forward, but in the end physical problems prevented Quartararo from fully exploiting the potential. Next Monday a new test, this time official with all the riders and teams on the grid, will allow Yamaha to continue working on the bike.
