Suzuki’s lack of strength in 2021 deprived Joan Mir of all weapons to defend the world champion crown won the previous year, which led the Balearic rider to leave serious doubts about his future inside the Hamamatsu house, with which his contract ends at the end of the year.
However, the technical improvement of the GSX-RR during the winter and the arrival of a new team manager to fill the void left by Davide Brivio seems to have calmed the spirit of Mir, who is now aiming to remain at Suzuki.
“I’m happy with the current situation, I’ve seen an improvement in the bike, it seems we have more top speed and that’s important. I was able to rest, recharge the batteries and we worked well over the winter. I can’t wait to start the season. and see what happens, ”Mir explained at the preseason press conference on Thursday.
One of the areas in which Suzuki was most in trouble last year was in team management, so signing Livio Suppo to take on the position of team manager takes on fundamental contours.
“This is a step we have been waiting for a long time, before there were people on the team doing that job (the team manager’s job), even if it wasn’t exactly their job. Now everyone knows what they have to do and Livio will bring a lot to the team, he will help us because he is a very clear person and that is what we need, “said # 36.
Another important aspect is Suzuki’s technical growth and the closeness that has been seen between all the brands in the pre-season tests.
“It is very good for the show, the tests are already like a qualifying by now, there is a lot of competition between the manufacturers and the drivers. It makes our life a little more difficult, but we will all enjoy it, both inside and out”, he said.
Another improvement for Suzuki is the evolution of the lowering, an area where some brands are reaching galactic levels.
“It is starting to be too much, we are going faster and faster, soon we will reach 370 km / h. But it is more difficult to make a difference if everything is easier, I do not think it is the best compromise”, said the Spaniard, who like Marc Marquez is among those who consider that this device should disappear.
