Everyone was waiting to find out who Pecco Bagnaia’s teammate in Ducati would be, but instead the first to move the MotoGP market was Aprilia and it did so by making a sensational coup: the Noale company announced that it had put under Jorge Martin contract with a multi-year agreement starting next season.
The official announcement was made with a short video published on social media, in which CEO Massimo Rivola said: “We present to you the new Aprilia Racing rider, who will take the place of Aleix Espargaro”. And then the World Championship leader entered the scene, who will therefore be the heir of the “Captain”, a great friend of his, riding the RS-GP.
And to think that just a few days ago the scenario seemed to be completely different, because the Madrid native had arrived at Mugello with a handshake with Ducati, which had promised him that he would be the one chosen for the official team, without however having put his things black on white.
However, the idea of the Borgo Panigale manufacturer was to place Marc Marquez in Prima Pramac Racing with a factory bike. An option that was rejected by the eight-time world champion, completely overturning the prospects, because Claudio Domenicali and Gigi Dall’Igna didn’t want to know about losing a rider capable of shifting the balance on the track and in the media like Cervera’s.
Today, therefore, Motorsport.com anticipated that over the course of the weekend the scenarios were completely reversed, with “Martinator” who perceived the “betrayal” coming from the gates of Bologna and decided to start looking elsewhere once he understood that in the end it would be #93 who wore Red.
However, no one could have imagined that Jorge could realize his future so quickly. What is certain is that this is a sensational coup for Aprilia, because with the way things are going it could even find itself having the world champion among its ranks in a year’s time. But even if this were not to be the case, he would have a top rider with whom there could only be one objective: to try to go after the title.
“An unstoppable growth path, Jorge is a step towards achieving the goal that we are all eagerly seeking in Aprilia Racing. Thanks to Doctor Michele Colaninno for this opportunity, we spoke last night and without wasting time we decided”, he commented Rivola.
