The Team Gresini MotoGP in Qatar with Enea Bastianini protagonist of these first free practice sessions of the 2022 season. Driver number 23 immediately gave good signals in FP1, always running on hard tires and finding interesting times, while in FP2 only one problem in the last sector left him out of Q2 that seemed certain. Just 0.042 seconds separate the Beast (11th) from the top-10. Impossible mission today in PL3? The Gresini Team rider who wants to try is not of the same opinion. Real first day of school for Fabio Di Giannantonio which closes its Friday less than two seconds from the top and with some regrets. In FP1 a crash effectively halved the session of the Italian who lost at least 15 minutes; in PL2 a slow trajectory driver instead “ruined” the speed lap of number 49.
Enea Bastianini: “The first day was positive, we were fast in both sessions despite some problems with feeling on the front. With the time attack we lost a lot in the last sector and this slowed us down a bit and at 15 I couldn’t get out with the right push. We lost at least 4 tenths in that passage, otherwise Q2 would be assured. Today in PL3 it will be a difficult mission, but we can try ”.
Fabio Di Giannantonio: “There was a lot of emotion and I can say that this great adventure has finally begun. We worked well even though I am half happy: I arrive from Moto2 where I was working to win the races and seeing me so behind complicates my life a bit, but there is a need to learn. I have to figure out how to go faster. Unfortunately, I crashed at turn three and maybe if I hadn’t had a rider on the line I would have been a little further ahead ”.
