After an explosive start to the season, Enea Bastianini is facing a difficult moment, most likely the hardest period since he has been in MotoGP. The Gresini team rider ran into a series of crashes that led him away from the top in Assen and a technical problem in qualifying forced him to start from the rear. Starting from the 16th spot, he managed to recover up to 11th place, but at the end of the Dutch GP the Romagna is far from satisfied.
“It was a complicated weekend, we had many ups and downs and we never found the right consistency”, says Bastianini taking stock of the Assen weekend, the last one before the break. “Sunday morning I felt good, but in the race in the right-hand corners there was something wrong. It’s a period like this, but I gave my best and did everything I could and we collected some good points. The gap was not high, I would have liked to have raced with different tires, to see how it would go. I’m sure that after the break we will be competitive again ”.

There have been many difficulties that have accompanied Bastianini in these last three races. Stopping for the usual summer break will be important to recharge the batteries but also to work on the aspects to be improved. The driver Gresini, in fact, analyzing his race, believes he has to define some things to be able to fight again with the riders in front: “I want more, on Saturday we had a technical problem and we knew it would be difficult to recover positions in the race. In the second half I was with Aleix Espargaro, but he was much faster than me and this is not good. I tried to push, but we need to understand why these things happen. Now there is the summer break, there will be time to think of a solution. In these last three races I have suffered a lot, because I was behind, nervous and this is not good for the energies. This summer break will be very positive for me ”.
Despite the difficulties of recent weekends, Bastianini is convinced of how much potential Ducati has. He demonstrated this at the beginning of the year and with the renewal of the contract that will bind him for another two seasons at Borgo Panigale: “For me with the GP19 the approach was strange, because the bike was much more nervous than my Kalex in Moto2. When I tried the GP21 I really understood the potential of the bike, because it is smoother to ride. For a rookie I think it’s a great bike to approach. Much also depends on the driving style, you have to adapt a lot, because it is important to brake hard and you need to have a lot of speed in corners ”.
