While we wait for a first complete draft of the 2025 MotoGP calendar, some confirmations have arrived on the individual stages of the next season. After the announcement of the start of the championship from the Buriram circuit, in Thailand, on March 3, 2025, now comes the official announcement of the return of the Hungarian Grand Prix after more than 30 years of absence: however, the MotoGP World Championship will not be hosted, as happened between 1990 and 1992, by the Hungaroring in Budapest, but by the new Balaton Park track inaugurated in 2023.
The track, approximately 4 km long, is located in northern Hungary near Lake Balaton, one of the largest lakes in Central Europe, which was evidently taken as inspiration for the circuit’s name. It will be the first major event for the new Hungarian trackwhich officially enters international motorsport just over a year after its inauguration, also hosting one of the rounds of the Superbike World Championship. While waiting for the official confirmation of the new calendars, in the meantime we know that the provisional dates for the organization of the third Hungarian GP in the history of the MotoGP are 22, 23 and 24 August 2025.
“We are very happy to announce – said the CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta – that Balaton Park will be part of the 2025 MotoGP and WorldSBK calendar. The circuit is in a spectacular location and will be a fantastic destination for fans to come and watch the world’s most exciting sport in action. Work is underway to prepare the venue for its historic debut on the calendar, adding another chapter to Hungary’s history in motorcycle Grand Prix racing. We look forward to returning to a key Central European market”.
