Russia launched a harsh allegation on Thursday against the European Union, which it accused of being subservient to NATO and US policy and of being carried away by “Russophobia”, especially after the entry of members from the east of the continent into the EU.

At a UN Security Council session dedicated to EU-UN relations, the Russian ambassador, Vasili Nebenzia, said that his country “has no interest in developing relations with this body (the EU)” and he will be content to maintain with her “an attitude of caution”.

The expansion plans of the EU, the inclusion of new states, including Ukraine – not yet formalized and in an incipient state – no longer reflect the interests of Russia.
His speech was plagued with criticism of the course of the European Union, where “the voices that understand the importance of relations with Russia are inaudible”, especially after the enlargement to the east.
The ambassador not only criticized the EU’s policy in Ukraine of arming the kyiv government, but also its foreign policy in general “with pressure on countries to accept sanctions (against Russia), its declaration of economic zones of influence , their blackmail to the states…”, he detailed.
“They divide the world between democracies and non-democracies, countries in the front yard and the back; it is colonialist rhetoric. Europe has lost its historical identity… It is basically defined by its Russophobia, it had its own vision of the world order but now it is just an obedient appendage of the United States,” she said.
The ambassador went further and asked himself: “Is Europe’s cultural influence going to be maintained? Civilizations expire and disappear,” he settled.
