The first weekend of the year could have been very loss-making for Russia. This is what Kiev's figures on the Ukraine war suggest.
Kiev – The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense delivers shocking figures every day. Because they make it clear how destructive and bloody it is Ukraine war is coming. The regular overview shared with the world via social media covers the losses. However, not those of our own troops. Separate those of the aggressor Russia.
Ukraine provides figures for Russian losses: 860 soldiers and 36 artillery systems in one day
How close the information comes to reality cannot be verified. Especially since Moscow itself rarely does about the losses suffered reported. Kremlin boss Wladimir Putin doesn't seem to be really interested in the blood toll that has to be paid for his war goal anyway. Hush money is even said to flow to soldiers' wives.
The figures from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at least suggest that Saturday (January 6th) was extremely costly for the invaders. The next day – the very date on which Christmas is celebrated in Russia – Kiev statedthat “the Russian occupiers” had lost 860 more soldiers. This means that the number of “eliminated personnel” since the beginning of the war has risen to around 364,730.
In addition, 45 tank vehicles, 36 artillery systems, 24 drones, 22 armed combat vehicles and four tanks were eliminated. Ten destroyed special equipment, four air defense systems that are no longer usable and one multiple rocket system are also listed.
The Ministry of Defense wrote a quote from former US General Norman Schwarzkopf about these immense numbers. This says: “I believe that it is God's job to forgive them, we just have to arrange the meeting.” Which then probably means: Let the enemy come before God, ergo die.

Also for Sunday (January 7th) Kiev says the aggressor suffered heavy losses. Accordingly, 440 more soldiers died, meaning that around 365,170 men and women sent by Putin would have already lost their lives. With 19 additional tank vehicles, the losses here amount to 11,542; for armed combat vehicles, with 14 more, the losses are already 11,194. The number of artillery systems destroyed rose by 13 to 8,666, and the number of drones increased by eleven more, bringing the total to 6,822.
They want nine tanks Ukraine within 24 hours, Russia would have lost 6,031 since the invasion – and more than a dozen at the weekend alone. There are also two more multiple rocket systems, which, according to the Ukrainian statement, increases the number to 953. Russia allegedly already lost in 1787 due to another cruise missile being disabled. The number of air defense systems destroyed also increases by one to 638. In addition, another piece of special equipment was destroyed, bringing the total to 1,328.
The number of military jets remained at 329, helicopters at 324, warships and boats at 23 and submarines at one. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry let Albert Einstein have his say: “Many things that can be counted do not count. A lot of things that you can’t count really count.”
Most recently, a Bundeswehr general made it clear how immense the losses are on the Russian side. However, the Ukrainians have already lost many of the Leopard tanks delivered from Germany. (mg)
