More than 700 people arrested in new day of protests in Russia

At least 744 people were arrested this Saturday (24) in Russia in the second day of protest actions against the mobilization decreed by President Vladimir Putin, with the aim of reversing military setbacks in Ukraine.

As of 8:36 pm local time, 744 people had been arrested in 32 cities across the country, according to OVD-Info, an organization that tracks documented arrests in Russia. Almost half of the arrests so far, 371, have been recorded in the capital.

In St. Petersburg, the country’s second-largest city, 128 people were arrested and police used batons and tasers against protesters, according to local media. On Thursday (22), one day after the announcement of the mobilization, around 1,400 people were arrested across the country.
