Purchasing resale tickets always carries a risk. However, when Oasis announced their return to the stage after so many yearsmany fans did not want to be left without a place at the concerts – which will begin next year – and resorted to this route to get their tickets. Now they see their access to the concert in danger, given the possibility that 50,000 tickets sold in this way will be cancelled.
The promoters of the legendary band formed by the Gallagher brothers, Live Nation and SJM, explained to the British network BBC that “they will cancel more than 50,000 entries» for their long-awaited reunion tour in the United Kingdom. The reason is that these canceled tickets were purchased on resale platforms at inflated prices.
Ticketmaster was one of the authorized portals for the official sale of tickets, although not the only one. As is common in high demand events, the long waits and the speed with which sold out tickets caused many fans to resort to reselling. However, it now seems that this alternative will bring complications for those who bought their tickets this way.
In an effort to reduce speculative resale, Canceled tickets will be offered again through Ticketmasterthe official distributor, with its original price. This measure seeks not only to protect fans, but also to ensure that true Oasis fans enjoy the tour without having to pay excessive prices. According to the British media, approximately 4% of the tickets ended up being resold, which is equivalent to around 50,000 tickets.
The organizers have pointed out that this proportion is notably lower than that of other major tours, where even 20% of tickets are usually resold at higher prices on unofficial sites.
Announced in August, the tour generated overwhelming demand: 1.4 million tickets were offered to fans, while more than 10 million people from 158 countries tried to acquire them. However, shortly after the sale, thousands of tickets appeared on resale sites with prices well above their initial value.
