Capcom celebrates Monster Hunter’s outstanding achievement.
In a recent Capcom report on fiscal year 2021, the Japanese company also offered an in-depth look at the overall results of some of its major franchises.
Arrived in March 2021, the month in which the fiscal year ends, the Monster Hunter series went on to sell more than 72 million copies worldwide. The latest arrival Monster Hunter Rise has alone placed more than 4.8 million copies since release on Nintendo Switch.
With 13 iterations, Monster Hunter becomes one of the most profitable IPs for Capcom, second only to the Resident Evil series. According to the aforementioned report, Monster Hunter sales are even twice as high as the iconic Mega Man series. Compared to Street Fighter, IP which has the same number of games released, MH even reaches 60% more than the distribution.
This great result is naturally driven by theMonster Hunter World Outstanding Success, which alone has sold over 20 million copies since its launch in 2018. World had the merit of bringing a lot of the general public closer to the series, which until then was considered much more “niche”.
The latest iteration of the series is Monster Hunter Rise, released exclusively on Nintendo Switch in March of this year. But the ride does not end there, as the launch of the PC version of the game, which will undoubtedly attract another important slice of the public.
