Not Graham Stroker, but his rival Mohammed Ben Sulayem was elected as the new FIA president. He obtained 61.6% of the vote; versus 36.6% for its British rival. Mohammed Ben Sulayem succeeds Jean Todt, who has served three terms at the International Automobile Federation. He starts his four-year presidency with high ambitions: during that period, participation in global motorsport should double. He also wants to simplify the internal structures and focus on diversity and inclusion.
Motorsport is no stranger to Mohammed Ben Sulayem, as he was a gifted rally and rally raid driver. Since 2006, he has been President of the Motorsport Federation in the United Arab Emirates and Vice-President Mobility and Tourism at the FIA. His closest collaborators include Fabiana Ecclestone, wife of former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, and Robert Reid, the former co-driver of World Rally Champion Richard Burns.
