Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s coalition has so far won a majority during the vote counting in Tuesday’s general elections, television channels reported.
At 0430 GMT, television channels showed that the National Democratic Alliance had won about 300 of the 543 seats in Parliament, and the All-India National Development Alliance, led by the Congress Party led by Rahul Gandhi, was leading with more than 200 seats. Television channels said that only about 10 to 15 percent of the total votes had been counted at that time.
The BJP alone captured nearly 250 of the seats that the National Democratic Alliance led, compared to the 303 seats it won in 2019. Preliminary counting trends also showed that Modi initially led and then fell before advancing again in his electoral city of Varanasi. .
