Helsinki the police have told more about the data breach that led to the misuse of Traficom’s and the Tax Administration’s data. According to the police, the data breach targeted the Helsinki-based company’s software, which was used by two customer organizations of Traficom’s vehicle registry.
Using these customer organizations, the intruder was able to retrieve large amounts of information from Traficom’s vehicle register and the Tax Administration’s positive credit register on false grounds.
The data breach came to the attention of the police when a private individual received an alert from the credit register that a financial decision survey had been made using his social security number. According to the police, several individuals have filed criminal reports in the case.
