Minjeong Chai wins
Olympic champion over 1500 meters at the end of the short track competitions is Minjeong Chai from South Korea. Second place went to Arianna Fontana from Italy, who had already won gold over 500 meters in China and is now the most successful short tracker at the Winter Games with eleven medals. Suzanne Schulting from the Netherlands was third. Minjeong Chai had already won the gold medal in Pyeongchang in 2018.
The German short tracker Anna Seidel was eliminated in the first round. The 23-year-old from Dresden fell in her quarterfinals over 1500 meters four laps before the end on Wednesday and thus had no chance of progressing. She also received a penalty and was listed in last place with no time. For the two-time European Championship runner-up in 2021, it was her first and last start at her third winter games. After the Olympics, she had retired to a cabin alone for a long time. “I’ve already said that I don’t really understand all of this and prefer to get up and run again. I was feeling better,” said Seidel, completely upset but physically unharmed. (dpa/kjma.)
