The Ministry of Health authorized a new transfer in the amount of R$ 12.7 million to serve families living in municipalities affected by heavy rains in Bahia. According to a spokesperson for the folder, the amount will be transferred from the publication of a second ordinance signed by the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, this Thursday (30). “The resources will support the state in health surveillance at this time when there was an increase in the number of cities in emergency situations due to heavy rains,” explained the ministry in a statement.
In addition to the resources, the ministry is sending another 28 kits called “vigilo-disasters”, with medicines, vaccines and other supplies, to the affected cities in Bahia. The amount is enough to serve more than 14 thousand people and is added to the others already delivered to the region.
The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, flew over the affected areas again today, this time in the region of Vitória da Conquista. “”We flew over this entire region, we verified the damage caused by the rain and we are working together to bring assistance to those who have suffered as a result of the rain. We are going to work following the recommendations of President Jair Bolsonaro so that our brothers in Bahia do not lack anything”, said Queiroga during the visit.
With the resource released on Thursday, the amount transferred by the federal government to Bahia, through the Ministry of Health, reaches R$ 19.7 million that will support health surveillance and disease prevention actions.
Historic
Last Tuesday (28), the folder had already released R$ 7 million to 50 municipalities in the state. Now, 80 cities in Bahia that declared an emergency situation, state of public calamity or emergency recognition due to floods and floods will be covered by the measure.
The resources are from the National Health Fund and will be transferred to the Municipal Health Funds of the states affected by the floods. The amounts will serve to strengthen the health surveillance system and to implement actions to prevent and control epidemics in the affected municipalities.
Task force
The Ministry of Health monitors the status of all affected sites uninterruptedly in a flood situation room. The support base was installed in Ilhéus, in the south of the state.
Also this week, to meet and support the population affected by the floods in Bahia, the Ministry of Health sent technicians from the folder to draw a diagnosis of the situation and indicate the number of doctors and nurses needed to serve each city. Medicines, vaccines, equipment and supplies were also sent. “So far, the operation has sent more than 4.2 tons of basic medicines and strategic supplies, enough to serve more than 25 thousand people”, recalled the ministry.
5 million supplies were also sent to control diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and zika, in addition to 1 million vials of sodium hypochlorite for water treatment. Bahia also received 100,000 doses of vaccines against Influenza, 40,000 doses of vaccine against pediatric hepatitis A and 10,000 doses of human rabies vaccine. Rescuers were also supported by the Ministry with boots, N95 masks, waterproof coats, uniforms and antigen tests to detect covid-19.
