Milei and Meloni seal a political alliance in the Casa Rosada

Just after 11 a.m. local time, Meloni arrived at the Casa Rosada, where she was received with a warm greeting by the president and his sister, the Secretary of the Presidency Karina Milei. After the conventional joint photo with the flags of both countries as a sign of communion, both made a greeting from the balcony of the Government House to the historic Plaza de Mayo – just as the Argentine president did days ago with Macron and weeks ago with former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson -.

After an extensive meeting at the Casa Rosada, Milei and Meloni have spoken a joint statement to the presssomething that made evident the enormous difference with the visit of the French president to Buenos Aires last weekend, much more concise and without a common speech.

The first to speak after the bilateral meeting was the Argentine president, who publicly thanked the Italian ‘premier’ for the presence and made reference to common interests, with marked warlike language. “We are brother people”has maintained the president, who has once again alluded to the support of “forces from heaven” to win a “war” and has asked to establish “an alliance of free nations united against tyranny and misery.”

Next, it was Meloni’s turn, who initially spoke about the common origins that unite Argentina and Italy, and then explained the reasons for his presence in the Casa Rosada. In this sense, he has indicated that his time in Buenos Aires is based on three main axes: the political, the security and the business.

«Italy and Argentina have great potential to explore. That is why we decided to jointly write a 2025-203 action plan that identifies main sectors for bilateral collaboration,” he defended. And he continued: “Valuable market liberalization policies to support investments can open new opportunities and be a further incentive for the Italian presence to grow in the way we want to do.”

He also referred to the common position of both countries with respect to Venezuela and concluded: «We share a political idea. We are two leaders who fight to defend the freedom of the West and whose cardinal points are freedom, equality between people, democratic systems and equality between nations.

Good harmony and possible investments

The visit of the Italian ‘premier’ to the Government Palace has lasted for more than two hours. In addition to the sister of the head of state, who has a leading role in the meetings with European leaders, she has also been present at the meeting the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti.

It is known that between Meloni and Milei the bond is more than fluid, since ideologically both share a similar position. So much so that, in his speech last week at the convention of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the Argentine president anticipated his intention to form an international ideological alliance with other countries, including Italy.

In this sense, the visit of the Italian Prime Minister to Buenos Aires aims at a double objective. On the one hand, consolidate the common agreements between both countries -specifically linked to both justice and security-. However, on the other hand, both Milei and Meloni firmly see the possibility of moving forward in joint business operations.

It is worth remembering that some 300 Italian companies currently operate in Argentina and that this year the country of tango has exported to Italy for 751.9 million dollars and imported from this $995.1 million. The interest of the European country in South America is focused on some industries in particular: energy, computing, mechanics, food and infrastructure.
