Milan flop: goodbye to the Europa League and Rome to the semi-finals. The last Rossoneri goal fades away
Milan's season will end without trophies. The Scudetto against a super Inter is long gone (on Monday we will have to avoid the humiliation of seeing him win against Lautaro and his teammates in the derby), faded almost immediately the Italian Cup (in the quarter-finals, eliminated at San Siro by Atalanta 1-2 after taking the lead), out of the Champions League in the iron round (but there it was obviously unthinkable to believe that we would get to the end anyway), now comes perhaps the most bitter disappointment: goodbye to the Europa League in the quarterfinals at the hands of Roma.
Strong and well organized team (De Rossi's hand…) the Giallorossi, but the Rossoneri had all the cards in their hands a priori to pass the round and reach the semi-final (against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen) and try to play for an orphaned Liverpool trophy (kicked out by Gasperini's Atalanta).

Instead, nothing. Lost the first leg at San Siro (1-0 goal by Mancini), a reaction was expected deviled of Milan on the return leg. Reality instead told of a team that immediately went down: 2-0 after 22 minutes at the hands of Mancini again and then of Joya Paulo Dybala (shot at the end of a counterattack carried out by Lukaku, who did well to win the duel physical with Gabbia and causing the Rossoneri defense to collapse). Not even Celik's expulsion in the 31st minute (foul on Leao who was starting on the counterattack) which left Roma with 10 men for over an hour was enough to give Pioli's team the jolt to reverse their destiny.
Milan betrayed by its champions: Leao, Theo Hernandez, Giroud flop in the double match against Roma in the Europa League. Pioli loses against De Rossi. The report cards
Milan betrayed by everyone: true some small flashes Rafael Leao he had it at the Olimpico (but also many mistakes, vote 5), but objectively much, much more was expected from the Portuguese talent in the double challenge (overall rating 4.5).
Theo Hernandez also did badly (rated 5), never disruptive on the left wing. Also the farewell of Olivier Giroud (the rumors about the farewell to Los Angeles and the MLS in the summer) from Europe the Rossoneri were disappointing in the two matches (never incisive in the return, vote 5 without forgetting that crossbar taken a stone's throw from the goalkeeper in the final minutes of the match at San Siro…). Little by one Christian Pulisic (vote 5) who put a lot of soul into it but without finding the usual quality. Just a little something from Ruben Loftus Cheek (crossbar at 1-0 for Roma who deserved better luck), but even the former Chelsea player was decidedly below his standards (rated 5).

Milan did poorly in midfield with a Bennacer distant relative of the best Isma (rated 4.5) and who was responsible for the protection of the defense in Roma's two goals (where Tomori and Gabbia with a score of 5.5 went under). Said of Jovic, Reijnders and Okafor (rated 5.5) who failed to change the game and a Maignan blameless for Roma's two goals (score 6-)to save themselves there are only one Musah determined (running and dribbling, even if he lacked the clarity to close some good initiatives, vote 6) it's a Chukwueze (score 6) lively and always ready to look for the play to blow up the opposing defense when he came on at the start of the second half.
Stefano Pioli? The Rossoneri coach clearly loses (4.5 rating) the double match with Daniele De Rossi. And the nightmare of that double derby in the Champions League semi-final against Simone Inzaghi's Inter played just under a year ago comes to mind.
