Miguel Ángel Russo lived in 2017 the most important “game” of his life: he fought against cancer, which he beat and now he remembered what that hard moment was like. While he is working in Saudi Arabia, where he has eight wins in eight games played, the coach gave an interview where he recounted his tough experience.
“I was not afraid of death and I never thought about it. I always thought that I was going to live and that I still had a lot to do. Being unconscious did my head a lot of good. I was not a fool and a madman who did not care, but my mind always thought positively about my death, “he declared in dialogue with Super Deportivo Radio.
“Days before a game I had given chemo. He was down in the rain giving directions. My oncologist did not understand anything, he thought it was impossible for a guy to be experiencing what he was experiencing because of how he was 48 hours before. The fact of seeing the ball roll healed me more than the rest”, he said with great emotion.
On the other hand, he recounted the difficulty involved in making a recovery of this style in the country and the difference with Colombia. “In Argentina you do chemotherapy and they want to take a selfie with your cell phone; there there was total respectl. I had no invasion, they covered me and protected me and that made me feel better, ”she sentenced.
In addition to his illness, the coach revealed that he was close to directing Argentina. “They called me one night and told me ‘you are the coach of the national team’. And the next morning it was no more, ha. But this is how it is,” he recalled.
