Migrants, new shipwreck in Lampedusa: a 5-year-old girl died
Still victims of immigration in Lampedusa: the girl who died in the shipwreck which occurred 10 miles off the coast of the island was 5 years old. The little girl had been rescued by Coast Guard patrol boats together with a group of 43 migrants, all originating from the Ivory Coast, Guinea and Cameroon.
Among them also 9 women and 3 minors. The child was immediately intubated, directly by the Coast Guard doctors already on the patrol boat, before being transported to the clinic. The survivors reported that they left Sfax, Tunisia, at 10pm yesterday and paid 2,500 dinars each (about 750 euros) to cross in the iron boat.
They would not be missing, according to what is currently being reconstructed. On the island, where the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini has just arrived, the emergency has returned. The Agrigento prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation file, charged to unknown persons, for the crime of aiding and abetting illegal immigration and death as a result of another crime. The investigations were delegated to the flying squad.
