Last December 28, Microsoft I announced one New investment in Zaragoza. Specifically, in a Data centerthe third of the company in Aragon, which, on this occasion, was going to be installed in Venice Parknext to Puerto Venice, with a Investment of 2.9 billion of euros.
A project, called “New Campus of Microsoft Data Centers”, promoted by Microsoft 7724 Spain SLU, which was declared of autonomic interest with a general interest of Aragon, with which the company advances in its expansion of the Azure NetLa Muela and another in Villamayor de Gállegoin addition to having plots acquired in the Recycling Technology Park.
As stated in all documentation, the data centers campus will house both infrastructure and equipment necessary for the Data process and storage in order to facilitate digital transformation and connectivity of companies and organizations.
The infrastructure includes both physical elements, food or networks to software, apart from understanding safe deployment processes, maintenance without impact and prediction of failures enabled by automatic learning.
The project will be carried out on two surfaces that form a discontinuous area of 58.97 hectares. The area with the highest area is located between the Z-40 Circunvalación road and the forest area of Monte Torrero, west of the Puerto Venecia shopping center. The smaller surface is located about 10.3 kilometers in a straight line to the southeast of the main area.
Campus buildings for the process and data storage will have an approximate area of Between 21,500 square meters and 46,800 square meters builtaccording to his typology. Each of the buildings, which will be accessed by the interior roads, will house computer servers and data storage equipment. Both are the key elements for the production of digital content and services and carry out all the related data processing and storage activity.
Specifically, the project sets a sub-ambitum 1, of 565,955.21 square meters, for main buildings and facilities of the data centers campus, while, for sub-environment 2, there is a surface of 24,783.50 square meters for auxiliary infrastructure. This surface corresponds to culture lands on which renewable energy projects are currently carried out, both wind and solar. In addition, the Ave-Zaragoza electrical substation and the sectioning center (CSAVE) are close.
Sub-Fit 1 plots are a total of 19 of which the majority are owned by the City of Zaragoza and several private owners. On the other hand, sub-absolted 2 affects a cadastral plot of a commercial entity.
The campus, whose buildings will have Mechanical cooling When temperatures are high, it will also have administrative buildings and other associated services. For example, the first, the administrative building, includes the activities of maintenance, planning and management of servers for which it will have the offices area, in addition to having leisure spaces for employees. In the so -called facilities area there will be associated and support facilities necessary for the operation of the data centers.
According to project data, landscape elements are contemplated, apart from integrating Surface rainfall management areas such as attenuation ponds and areas for the leisure and recreation of employees. The areas of vehicle parking of the campus -for cars, bicycles and small buses -will have electric recharge points. The areas that will perimeterly surround the campus will be green, apart from hosting the reserve areas for infrastructure and road network.
Investment and employment
This Microsoft project will be carried out in several phases. The first corresponds to the definitive partial approval of this Piga phase, in terms of capital investment, which is scheduled for 2026. The company will make the initial development of the first phase of the data center and all the necessary infrastructure.
Herein first phase, the investment It will be 600 million US dollars (some 582 million approximately euros), while in the rest, until the campus is completed, it amounts to 2.4 billion dollars. Complete execution could reach a direct investment of 3,000 million USA dollars.
As for employment, the project reveals that they will be needed During the construction phase between 1,000 and 2,000 workerswith an annual average of between 300 and 400 jobs, to complete the development of the campus as a whole. The construction of the entire campus will require about 12 million hours worked.
In this phase, electricians, plumbers, tubers, carpenters, iron and steel structures, concreteers or workers in land movements, among others, will be specified.
After finishing the construction phase, it is expected to be able generate up to 300 fixed jobs for full time for campus operation. In this case, the profiles will be linked to the management of campus, personnel management, operations in critical environments, training and development, IT operations, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, safety contractors and maintenance of buildings.
