We got to get on the interesting one MG Marvel R electric, and the first impression is definitely positive. The car, an expression for the European market desired by the Chinese group SAIC, it has some impactful characteristics, like the appreciable design (even in the details), ease of driving and seating comfort, including spaciousness. While the commands of thehuge central screen which, in tablet mode, represents the heart of the car. Anyone who buys it will have to do a little bit of hands on it, possibly testing its characteristics when the car is stationary, in the home garage.
The electric, tested version Luxury, proved to be pleasant in terms of driving, immediately giving a good reception. The main controls on the steering wheel are accessible and well positioned. Unfortunately, one cannot avoid thinking that the large central touch screen (really: 19.4 inches) and technologically very interesting, would have been more ‘useful’ in a higher position, so as not to force the driver to distract the look from the car. From the design point of view there are no flaws: the interior has a nice look and is enveloping. However, there is no lack of ‘analog’ controls and the automatic gearbox selector has the parking P in the center. The exterior design is particularly refined, and the door handles in particular are innovative.
The MG flagship will be sold at a price starting from € 32,550 for the Comfort RWD version (with Ecoincentives), in line with the current market. There will be three trim levels (Comfort, Luxury and Performance) and two variants of advanced engines and tractions (RWD and AWD). The Comfort and Luxury trim levels both have rear-wheel drive, two electric motors, a system output of 132 kW (180 hp), 410 Nm of torque and a WLTP range of 402 kilometers. The Performance trim adds an electric motor to the front axle and offers permanent all-wheel drive. System power and peak torque are set at 212 kW (288 hp) and 665 Nm, combined with a range of 370 kilometers (WLTP).
All versions of the Marvel R Electric are equipped with a 70 kWh battery and an 11 kW 3-phase on-board battery charger for fast AC charging. The battery is also suitable for fast charging (DC) with up to 92 kW, which allows you to charge the battery from 5 to 80% in just 43 minutes. There is also a sport driving mode available for greater electric power, but as always this is an operation that comes at the expense of the overall battery life.
The standard equipment of the Marvel R Electric includes a full range of advanced driver assistance systems, a heat pump that can heat or cool the battery (and cabin) to ensure optimal charging performance in all circumstances and a system called V2L (vehicle-to-load). The latter system allows the battery to supply power to an external electrical system, for example an air pump, an electric scooter, a laptop or even another BEV.
