As follows from the release, the Czech national team went into mandatory quarantine after one of the players tested positive for COVID-19. In this case, the Czech team will not be able to participate in the preliminary match on December 29 against Finland, it was awarded a technical defeat with a score of 0: 1, writes Sport-Express.
The team’s quarantine status will be further analyzed to determine if it will be able to take part in the final game of the preliminary round, slated for December 30 against Austria, the IIHF indicated.
The day before, for a similar reason, the match between the USA and Switzerland national teams at the World Youth Championship was canceled. The American team has identified two cases of coronavirus. The USA national team was awarded a technical defeat.
The national teams of the USA and Switzerland are rivals of the Russian team in Group B. On December 28, the Russians beat the Swiss in the second match of the group stage of the World Cup with a score of 4: 2. The day before, the Russian national team lost to Sweden with a score of 3: 6.
The World Youth Championship takes place in Canada from December 26, 2021 to January 5, 2022. Matches are held in Edmonton and Red Deer. The Russian national team plays in group B with teams from Sweden, USA, Slovakia and Switzerland.
