Paris France.- The “Green” brought back to Mexico, without even competing in the Olympic Final, the glory in Olympic boxing.
This afternoon, Marco Verde earned her ticket to the Final of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the 71-kilogram category, something that no tricolor had achieved for several decades.
The last time a boxer had been in a Final was in Los Angeles 1984, when Héctor López managed to win the Silver in the Roosters category.
It took 40 years for a boxer to reach the final of the Olympic Games, as the last three medals in that discipline had been bronze medals.
Now, getting gold in the ring takes longer.
Of the 13 medals won so far in boxing, not counting the one Marco will win, only two of them have been gold and were won in Mexico 1968, 56 years ago.
Ricardo Delgado, in Flyweight, and Antonio Roldán, in Featherweight, were the boxers who managed to get the national anthem sung, something that the Sinaloa native Verde will seek this Friday when he faces the Uzbek Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev, whom he already defeated at the beginning of this year.
