Between yesterday and today (depending on the time zone) It’s been exactly seven years since Metroid Prime 4 was announced for Nintendo Switch and which vanished into thin air. That is, we all know that the project was restarted and ended up in the hands of another developer, Retro Studios, but there is no other information about it, apart from some never confirmed rumors. What are the chances of an imminent return?
Let’s recap the story of Metroid Prime 4. In 2017 Nintendo announces the game. Bandai Namco Japan and Bandai Namco Singapore are in development.
At the time, Retro Studios was in big trouble and wasn’t considered for the project.
In 2019, the restart of development and the end of the collaboration with Bandai Namco was announced. Evidently Nintendo wasn’t happy with the results. In the meantime Nintendo has restructured Retro Studios and entrusted the development to him.
Since then, literally nothing official has been heard about Metroid Prime 4, even if the series has continued to live on in other titles, such as Metroid Dread, a success for Nintendo Switch, and in Metroid Prime Remastered, surprisingly launched in 2023 and developed by Retro Studios itself, with help from Iron Galaxy.
Many are talking about the game’s return in 2024. Rumors have it that it will be one of the launch games for Super Nintendo Switch, or Nintendo Switch 2 if you prefer, so it will be published during 2025, together with the console (not yet presented) .
The timing for a launch in 2025 is the right one, considering a development cycle of around six years, optimal for such a project.
