Return to China
When Formula 1 last stopped in Shanghai in 2019 it was a completely different world. Not only because the disastrous Covid-19 pandemic would arrive within a year, but also in the sporting field, where the Mercedes had dominated the category for six years. In the ten editions preceding this one in 2024, the Silver Arrows had in fact triumphed six times, the last of which with Valtteri Bottas.
This year's weekend wasn't so successful for Toto Wolff's men, struggling with a technical crisis that has gripped them for three seasons now. The only highlight was Hamilton's second place in the Sprint, while in the Sunday GP the team did no better than sixth with Russell and ninth with Hamilton.
Wolff's comment
“Considering where we finished, today's positions are not good for us. Is not enough“he has declared Toto Wolff to Sky UKadding: “We missed the step and we need to get to the bottom of this. We have something in store for Miami, which seems to be a good step forward. Let's see where it takes us.”
The team principal and co-owner of the team then concluded: “Our car is not placed and we can clearly see what we did wrong on the car. Vwe wanted to be a little more aggressive to do something different and you saw with Lewis, Maybe it was a bit more than I could chew. The car wasn't fast, just look at the data: it wasn't the right thing to do.”
