Fifa and the Colombian Football Federation presented this Thursday in Medellín the official mascot of the U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be played in the country between August 31 and September 22.
The category team, led by Carlos Paniagua, will be local to the tournament and will be based on the National Team that in 2022 was the U-17 world runner-up. The championship draw will be held on June 5.
“Born next to the emblematic Caño Cristales river, to which it owes its colorful design and which also inspired the official emblem of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024, the mascot owes its name to the Quechua word quinti, which means “hummingbird.” ”says the note from the organizing committee.
The event was attended by the captain of the Colombian Senior National Team, Daniela Montoya, and the historic scorer of the senior national team, Catalina Usme, as well as the historic goalkeeper René Higuita.
“It is wonderful to have Kinti, a very colorful hummingbird with contagious energy, as the official mascot of this year’s U-20 Women’s World Cup. The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is essential for young players as it can have a significant impact on their career, as it did in my case,” said Montoya, who participated in this tournament in 2010, when Colombia reached the semi-finals.
“Kinti’s passion for Colombia and the competition will continue to encourage the fans who will attend the tournament, and this will provide greater motivation to the teams and players in their transition from youth international football to senior football,” Montoya added, in statements sent by Fifa.
