Media | Prime Minister Marin does not want to portray his child – JSN chairman: “It’s hard to think that such a wish would lead to a total ban”

Prime minister Sanna Marin (sd) said On Twitter they have a negative attitude towards their spouse about photographing their daughter or publishing pictures.

Marin took a stand on filming her child on Thursday after the BTI filmed the president Sauli Niinistö and his wife Jenni Haukiota when they were their 4-year-old son Aaro Niinistö watching athletics in Turku. The Prime Minister has Matias Räikkönen with a 4-year-old daughter Emma.

“A child has the right to privacy even if their parents are in public work,” Marin wrote.

Public Chairman of the Word Council (JSN) Eero Hyvönen welcomes the fact that Prime Minister Marin has made public his will to portray his child.

According to Hyvönen, however, compliance is a matter for every photographer and publisher, whether it is a professional media or an individual.

“It’s hard to think that such a wish would lead to a total ban, even if the parents wanted it to,” Hyvönen told STT.

Parents according to Hyvönen, they cannot prohibit anyone from publishing pictures of their children, especially if the subject is in a public place.

Hyvönen refers to the Journalist’s instructions, which, among other things, allow filming and narration in a public place, usually without the permission of the parties. However, the protection of privacy must also be taken into account in public places, especially when dealing with minors.

Although the protection of the privacy of the public authority has been reduced, their children should be treated as ordinary citizens, according to Hyvönen.

“It [lapsen] privacy is at a standard level. The standard is that anyone can be photographed and pictures taken in a public place can be published by anyone. ”

BTI editor-in-chief Minna Holopainen justifies taking and bringing pictures to clients on the grounds that Niinistö ‘s son was photographed in a public place in a sports auditorium.

“The general public saw the family on the spot and could have posted pictures of them on social media if they wished. There was nothing unfortunate, sensitive or particularly private about them. It was about spending time with the president’s family at a public event where they would have been photographed, even if Aaro hadn’t been there, ”Holopainen said.

Holopainen understands Prime Minister Marini’s wish and that parents want to protect their children from unpleasant publicity. It is easy for him to fulfill his wish so that the child is not photographed in day care or shopping, for example. According to him, shooting situations also require judgment and good manners.

“I find it more difficult to restrict the filming of professional media at public events where a large number of people are also present on the spot and where members of the public know they are attracting the attention of the public and the media,” said Holopainen.

On Thursday, President Niinistö did not respond to BTI’s request for comments.
