The Valencian president Carlos Mazón has awarded 404,000 euros to a company dedicated to sporting events and the retail trade of meat products for the sponsorship of a cycling race in La Nucia (Alicante) this coming weekend. The Presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana has used, as it did with the million-dollar sponsorships of the October 9 festival, the negotiated procedure without publicity through urgent processing. The announcement of the award justifies the hand-picked procedure by the fact that the company Fran JCD Castellar SL holds the “exclusive ownership of the cycling events.” The financing of the sponsorships for both events – the ‘Som de la terreta’ festival and the cycling race – was part of the same credit transfer approved by the Consell on September 27.
The shareholder and sole administrator of the company is Javier Castellar Devís, a former professional cyclist who currently presides over the Podium Sports Club. The company, established in 2006, has assets of 494,086 euros, according to its latest annual accounts filed with the Commercial Registry, corresponding to the financial year 2022.
The firm, as its corporate purpose details, is dedicated to the “manufacturing and marketing of meats and sausages and their derivatives.” However, company sources explain, in 2018 Fran JCD Castellar SL absorbed the company Visionele SL, also owned by Javier Castellar, which in turn had as its corporate purpose the organization and staging of sporting events and social events. “It is not that he is dedicated to selling meat and that they have given him sponsorship,” the same sources clarify.
Javier Castellar assures that the event is prepared with “a lot of professionalism.” “I’ve been doing the same thing for 37 years,” he adds. For their part, Presidency sources indicate that Castellar is the “reference in the market for the organization of sporting events related to the world of cycling.”
The sponsorship contract refers to the race in La Nucia, a town in the Marina Baixa region governed by the popular Bernabé Cano, as a “new concept of cycling event” that includes the Criterium, Gran Fondo and Gravel events.
“Exclusive ownership” of the evidence
The former cyclist, in an interview published this Wednesday in All Alicantehighlights the rebirth of the Criterium test, after several years of interruption. “I have to make it clear: this is being recovered again thanks to Carlos Mazón, the mayor of La Nucia, the administrations and, of course, the efforts of an organizer who has to do is work very hard so that this does not happen.” lose,” says Castellar.
Unlike the controversial sponsorships of the 9 d’Octubre festival, this contract asks the sponsored company for a guarantee of 5% of the total amount. The award announcement justifies the sponsorship by the fact that the company “holds exclusive ownership ” from the Criterium Internacional La Nucia and Gran Fondo Internacional La Nucia tests.
The Generalitat Valenciana alludes to the “great impact” of the event as both tests are included in the national calendar of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation. The Alicante Provincial Council, chaired by the popular Toni Pérez, and the Higher Sports Council, headed by the socialist José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, appear as institutions that collaborate in the event.
