Fortunately, in the inferno that occurred on the highway, there were no deaths but there are four people hospitalized, two of them in hospital critical conditions. Many vehicles were completely destroyed after the accident. The incident originated from a huge rear-end collision that occurred on the 16bis ‘Adriatica’ state road, in the stretch that passes through Barletta, in Puglia.

The whole affair began in the early hours of this morning, around 7am, when an armed group tried to rob a valuables carrier. The group of criminals, armed with Kalashnikovs, blocked the road by positioning two trucks along the road, near the junction for Margherita di Savoia, in the direction of Foggia. The robbers’ plan, however, failed almost immediately when the security guards reacted, opening fire and forcing the criminals to flee. After the firefightFortunately, no injuries were reported.

The state road was closed in both directions near Barletta. Anas teams and law enforcement intervened on site to divert the traffic traffic and manage the emergency, trying to restore circulation. On this stretch of road, two further accidents occurred along the same stretch, with the most serious involving numerous vehicles near the exit for Barletta Ovest, in a chain collision caused by the traffic jam.

Numerous people arrived at the site of the disaster emergency vehiclesincluding the police, the fire brigade and the 118 medical staff. The images depict an impressive scene, with cars reduced to piles of sheet metal, damaged trucks and other vehicles literally crumpled. Currently, traffic is diverted at the “Barletta Ovest” exit.
