A nice ribbon and a firm handshake for Max Verstappen, Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
A bunch of knights in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton was previously knighted in his country and now it’s ‘our’ Max Verstappen’s turn. He can now boast of an elite title. Today Max Verstappen was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
As a Dutch person you can score such a ribbon because of special merits towards society. In Max’s case, it is putting the Netherlands on the map with its incredible success in Formula 1. The Royal Award was presented by Minister for Sport Conny Helder in the presence of Verstappen’s family and loved ones.
In addition to the ribbon, the Formula 1 world champion also received a gift from the Knac National Autosport Federation (KNAF). Verstappen received the Dutch racing license number 1 as a gift from the organization.
In a word of thanks, Max Verstappen says to thank his family, sponsors and the many fans. The Dutchman also says he is looking forward to the home race this weekend at Zandvoort.
The ribbon itself will certainly disappear in a cupboard or drawer somewhere. Compared to, for example, England, the status surrounding this award is a lot less traditional. Lewis Hamilton, for example, received the title Sir with his Royal decoration, while we do not know that here in the Netherlands. It will undoubtedly be a concern for Verstappen.
