Forty vintage F1s on the track
An intense weekend of racing saw the first round of the race taking place on the French Paul Ricard circuit Masters Historic Racingthe strong English organizer competing with the French Peter Auto the leadership of European competitions for historic cars.
The race reserved for the F1 cars of the 70s and 80s saw no less than 40 single-seaters entered, distributed across the various classes according to the periods they belonged to.
Public for great occasions
36 cars lined up at the start and despite the bad weather 30,000 people attended the race which was dominated by Mike Cantillon, who started from pole driving the Williams FW07C: “It was an extremely emotional experience racing in front of such a large crowd.” declared at the end of the race the winner who preceded Werner at the finish line d'Ansembourg with the Brabham BT49 and Ken Tyrrell driving the Tyrrell 011, separated by just seven seconds.
Great emotion for the result obtained also for the young Werner d'Ansemboutg, son of the most famous Christophe protagonist of this championship for many years. The young man Werner he is in his second year of racing with a challenging car like the F.1 Brabham BT49 and has achieved an absolutely prestigious result.
The Williams, McLaren and Tyrrel of the golden days
Father Christophe achieved an excellent fourth place, also at the wheel of a Williams FW07C, ahead of Jamie Constable with the Tyrrell 011, winner of the post 82 class, and the unlucky one Martin Strettonbetrayed on the last lap by his Tyrrell 012 which thus also lost the victory in its class, which thus went to Constable.
Driving the McLaren MP4/1, Steve Hartley achieved seventh position overall by winning the pre-78 class.
Endurance stars also on the track
The second event of the day is the highly anticipated race Endurance Legends reserved for the cars protagonists of the world endurance championship in the years 1995-2016.
After a race full of twists and turns, the victory went to the Englishman Steve Brooks driving a Peugeot 90X which beat Christophe d'Ansembourg with the Lola Aston Martin DBR1-2, after poleman Kriton Lendoudis he had been forced to retire due to a hydraulic problem with his Peugeot 908.
Jamie took third place Constablemaking his debut with the Zytek 04S, favored by Steve's retirement Tandybetrayed by his beautiful Lola Judd B12/60 a few minutes from the end.
Victories in the other classes went to Michael Birch which he beat Lafargue in P2, at the wheel of a Ligier JSP2-17 and to Jack Fabby, seventh overall and first in P3, with a Norma Duqueine D08.
Finally the GT class was won by William's Renault RS01 Teneketzianwho overtook Olivier's Corvette C7.R in the final minutes Morihain.
