The State Council communication is organized by the president of the media conference Martti Ahtisaaren about the funeral arrangements on Friday at 9 o’clock in the Government Palace. The event will tell you more about the funeral arrangements.

Ahtisaari’s funeral will be held in Helsinki on St. Martin’s Day, Friday, November 10. The blessing ceremony will be held in Helsinki Cathedral at 1 pm.

Ahtisaari’s grave will be blessed by the bishop emeritus Eero Huovinen.

To Ahtisaari there are state funerals, which are automatically held only for presidents. Guests are invited to state funerals in accordance with state protocol and the wishes of the relatives.

Citizens are also welcome to follow the funeral procession that goes from Helsinki Cathedral to Hietaniemi cemetery.

Martti Ahtisaari was the tenth president of the Republic of Finland. He held office in 1994–2000. President Ahtisaari died on October 16 and was 86 years old when he died.

The last time a state funeral was held in Finland was in May 2017 Mauno Koivisto.
