The news of the French GP
After Saturday, also Sunday. Jorge Martin gives an encore and at Le Mans, after the Sprint, we also take the Sunday race. A deserved victory, that of the Spaniard, but a very hard-fought one and it came after a long head to head with Bagnaiafirst as a shadow chaser of the reigning world champion and then as a hare in the final laps.
In the end the Piedmontese had to settle for ‘only’ the third step of the podium, losing the final three-way challenge, not only with Martin, but also with a impressive Marc Marquez, capable of recovering from 13th to second for the second consecutive day. Behind them Enea Bastianini fourth and Maverick Vinales fifth. Today’s top five are also the top five in the world rankings, also favored by fall of Pedro Acosta, the first zero of the season. In total there were six Ducatis in the first seven places.
The words of the top-3
Jorge Martin (1st, Ducati-Prima Pramac): “I can’t say much today. I had so many doubts before the race, but I proved to myself and to all these people who need me to prove something again that today I was the best. I’m really happy. The bike was perfect, I want to thank the team for that. Despite a few falls, the team prepared her perfectly. To do a one-two here at Le Mans is fantastic. Perfect weekend. I thank you all”.
Marc Marquez (2nd, Ducati-Gresini): “Beautiful comeback, starting from 13th place. Today I started well, but not like yesterday. So it took us a bit of time to overtake the other riders, especially at the start with the new tires being very similar between everyone. Then after a while the others wore them out more and then I managed to manage the situation. The impressive thing is that when I was alone the pace was there and I managed to catch up with those in front. Then for five laps I tried to overtake Pecco but I couldn’t. On the last lap I told myself to go for it. He knows me, he knows I have to try. I did it and it was a good overtaking, I managed to hold the line and defended myself well in the last sector” .
Pecco Bagnaia (3rd, Ducati): “I tried, I gave everything, I tried to manage from the start but the other two in the last two laps had something more. I’m happy to have finished the race after two seasons in which I hadn’t managed to do so. The result is pretty good considering how it went yesterday. Today I’m happy, now let’s think about the next race and I’m sure we can do even better.”
