The match report
Twenty-four hours after the fall in the Sprint Race which had given some world championship points to Francesco Bagnaia in his world championship comeback, Jorge Martin he fully redeemed himself at the Indonesian Grand Prix, winning it and dominating the race from the green light to the checkered flag. After an impeccable start in front of Bastianini and Acosta, the official Ducatis lost ground during the first half of the race and even fell out of the top-5, with the aggravating circumstance of a bad start by the reigning champion. While Martin and Acosta took advantage of the difficulties of others by maintaining the first two positions, with Morbidelli having climbed back into the podium area in the meantime, the ‘reds’ of the Borgo Panigale factory came back to life halfway through the race, more or less at the same time as Marc Marquez had to give up due to engine failure. At this juncture, Enea Bastianini particularly stood out, even climbing up to the podium area. However, a comeback was ruined with 7 laps to go due to a fall just when the Rimini driver was pushing to catch up on Acosta. At that point, the baton was passed to Bagnaia, who also moved up to third position ahead of Morbidelli and Bastianini and was content with a delay that now separates him 21 points in the standings from Jorge Martin, today’s absolute protagonist. However, a possible sanction that could affect Acosta due to tire pressure must be taken into consideration, with a possible change in the final finishing order.
The words of the top-3
Jorge Martin (1st, Ducati-Pramac): “I am very happy. This is not just a victory because after everything that happened last season and yesterday it was quite difficult to go the way I did today. I’m not saying I had doubts, because I have confidence in myself, but I was thinking about falling at every corner, so finding this feeling in the race and winning with this advantage was incredible. Pedro put a lot of pressure on me, so I’m happy and we’re ready for the next race.”.
Pedro Acosta (2nd, KTM – GASGAS Tech-3): “I said since Thursday that this track was a bit easier for us because we don’t have a lot of grip and normally the KTM is quite fast in these conditions. It wasn’t an easy weekend because we struggled a bit yesterday with some problems that we managed to resolve today. We took advantage of all this for this race also thanks to all the tests we are doing with Daniel and Pol together with all the people who are working in the factory and thanks to these guys who follow me and who guarantee me these fantastic results”.
Francesco Bagnaia (3rd, Ducati): “It was a really difficult race, I suffered a lot at the start because again I lost positions because I pushed and we have to control it, because it is the fourth start, or rather the fifth, that we are struggling. We need to improve this detail because the start can help you win races, but beyond that it was tough because when I found myself behind Morbidelli and Bezzecchi I struggled to overtake them, but when I passed in front I managed to push again but it was too late.”
