Williams, the renunciation of Sargeant is controversial
Following Alex's accident Albon in FP1 in Melbourne and the inability to recover the car in time, the Williams found itself at a crossroads: give up the performances of the Anglo-Thai or sacrifice the innocent Logan Sargeant?
The choice, which James Vowles defined as very difficult, actually came after a few hours, a sign that Williams did not go too far with Sargeant. On the other hand, even in Grove they know well how Albon could be the only one to conquer the top-10 on Sunday: the former Red Bull – since he joined Williams – has won 31 of the 36 points for the team. Helmut Marko, for this reason, approved Vowles' choice.
Marko's words
“Melbourne's seventh place is important for RB. It's incredibly difficult for the bottom five teams to finish in the points. Because of this I understand Williams' decision to give Albon Sargeant's car after his accident“, this is his comment to Speedweek. “Albon is clearly the stronger driver and a point in the championship can be worth up to ten million dollars. From this point of view, it was a logical decision“.
Tsunoda on shields
That seventh place that Marko praises is Yuki's work Tsunodacapable of qualifying for the second consecutive time in Q3 and of bringing the car to the points unlike his teammate, the much more highly rated Daniel Ricciardo: “Daniel's speed has improved, but Yuki is riding at a very high level right now and remains flawless. Franz Tost and I have always believed in him, his speed has always been beyond question for us. His problems were a lack of control, temper tantrums and a tendency to make mistakes. All of that disappeared this season. Yuki arrived in Europe very young and this is very difficult for a Japanese person. With us it's a completely different life. But now things are going well and Yuki is being recognized on the pilot market“.
