The disappearance of Dietrich Mateschitz after a long illness that occurred on the occasion of the United States Grand Prix, it led Red Bull to identify a new governance as a succession to the farewell of the Austrian patron. The energy drink giant has launched a sort of triumvirate with the former CEO of the Leipzig football club Oliver Mintzlaff as the contact person for all the teams linked to the Red Bull brand.
The F1 team in turn has a triumvirate on the bridge that made the fortunes of the Milton Keynes team. We are obviously talking about the trio formed by Adrian Newey, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko. In the name of independence Newey, Marko and Horner returned a deal with Porsche starting from 2026 which had already reached a handshake, but faced with the prospect of losing total control of the team through a 50% partnership, the Red Bull leaders preferred to remain independent.
An independence that second Helmut Marko it will continue to be so even now that the F1 activity will no longer have to be accounted for in Mateschitz, but in Mintzlaff: “Everything remains calm for us. There have been initial talks with our new boss, Mr Mintzlaff, and there is agreement that it would make no sense to restructure a successful package like Red Bull Racing. Where there is a need is AlphaTauri. Last year was not satisfactory”the words of Marko interviewed by the German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport.
In fact, the team from Faenza only finished ninth in the Constructors’ standings, a real setback for the Red Bull satellite team which instead dominated the championship. In view of 2023, a real ‘process’ is underway to change pace in the next season: “For their technical and financial potential, ninth place is not acceptable – added Marko – they made many strategic mistakes. The car had too little downforce. At the moment we are taking stock of the situation and evaluating which screws need to be tightened”.
