Disastrous weekend in Monaco
The elimination in Q1 of Sergio Perez not only did it deprive Red Bull of the chance to score points with two cars, but it also led to damages of up to 3 million euros. The Mexican driver, in fact, was involved in an accident at the start which led to the almost demolition of the RB20 and the withdrawal of the two Haas cars of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg.
The Danish driver tried to pass Perez on the right, who left no room and with the narrowing of the road the impact occurred which led to a carambola which essentially disintegrated Checo’s Red Bull. The Commissioners decided to do not take actionif they had done so Magnussen would have seriously risked disqualification for the next GP in Canada.
“I am surprised by how the Commissioners immediately declassified the accident – declared Helmut Marko, who does not hide the fact that the damages suffered by Perez will have an effect on Red Bull’s budget cap – the damages are between 2 and 3 million euros. It is an incident that will have a big impact on our budget cap“.
