Over the last month, Formula 1 has awaited many different outcomes, both of a sporting and ‘judicial’ nature: the name of the world champion drivers and constructors, as well as the official penalty inflicted by the FIA at the Red Bull for it budget overrun capwhich took place in the 2021 season. On the eve of the Mexican Grand Prix, the International Federation has in fact ruled on the matter, inflicting a $ 7 million fine on the Milton Keynes team, and reducing the latter by 10% the time of development for the 2023 single-seater.
A penalty which, as emerged in the previous days, was the final result of an agreement reached between the FIA itself and Red Bull, which has always defended itself on the reasons inherent to the $ 1.8 million more spent than allowed. On the eve of the Mexican Grand Prix, and a few hours after the final notice issued on the penalty, the Councilor of the Anglo-Austrian team also expressed himself in this regard: Helmut Marko.
Interviewed by Sky Deutschlandthe Austrian manager wanted to point out that the extra expenses were not minimally concentrated on the development of the car, but on two other reasons, one of which is intended to protect the health of an employee afflicted with a cardiological disease: “When you have catering costs – he has declared – it is clear that these were not intended for development of the car. There were also costs of 1 million for an employee who has suffered a heart operation and that in our opinion he was obviously not working on the development of the car ”.
