The Mario soccer game series dates back to the days of the GameCube with Mario Strikers, of which this chapter for Switch is the second sequel after one on Wii. Also this time the development was entrusted to the excellent Next Level Games team, developers of Luigi’s Mansion 3. The rules of Mario Strikers they are very simple: five against five, goalkeepers are managed by the computer, and off with special shots that really include whatever madness you can expect from the sport in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario Strikers it is exquisitely arcade and designed for multiplayer, with special moves that can turn the tide on the pitch at any moment. There are no referees on the pitch, but the most famous power-ups of the Mario series. One of these in particular allows you to perform hyperthires, the most spectacular moves in the game. Each team can have up to four different players, and each character has its own unique characteristics.
Although this Mario Strikers both playable in single, multiplayer is the real field on which the title gives its best. Up to eight players locally, either with a console or with multiple screens, or online one against one or two against two, without forgetting the online tournaments and the game structure which, in general, gives a nod to online competition. The Club Striker mode, then, allows you to create a team in which each player has a particular player, for a maximum of 20 who can thus create a clan with a lot of summons for each official match, with a seasonal structure. There are ten characters in all, fewer than the previous chapters, but Nintendo has already announced that free post-launch content will be released.
Like any self-respecting Mario sports game, too Battle League Football it is expressly recommended to anyone who can play multiplayer with friends or family. Playing alone, the title does not give its best, and unless you are passionate about online competitions the sense of challenge will soon disappear. Furthermore, the artificial intelligence is not the best, especially in the reactivity of the companions moved by the CPU. Next Level Games could have included more modes and innovations than the basic formula. On the other hand, the work is more than good from a technical point of view, with an excellent graphic style and the fluidic at 60fps which always remains very stable, even in the most agitated situations.
