Just before the Mugello GP, Marc Márquez indicated that he would take another break to have his battered right arm operated on for a fourth time. That happened yesterday and would be a success.
The right arm has been playing tricks on Márquez since the 2020 Jerez GP. The fractured humerus or upper arm was slow to heal, with a strange incident that the rider claimed was due to the opening of a sliding door and broke the arm again. Although it is claimed that getting back on the bike too early was the cause.
This season too, the arm seemed to be playing tricks on him, with the Spaniard looking pale and listless. Along with a few sickening crashes this season, he seemed like a pittance of his old, domineering self anymore. At Mugello, he took the plunge, declaring that he would have the arm operated again, as it was pointless and he would not be able to continue.
The right arm was operated on for three hours yesterday at the famous Mayo hospital in the American Minnesota. In the process, screws and plates were removed, the arm was sawn through and rotated 30° along the longitudinal axis and secured again with a plate. According to the doctor, the operation was a success and without drama.
We now have to wait and see how the recovery goes from what many believe to be the last chance surgery for the 8-time world champion.
