If Marc Marquez will wear red for the next two years, he owes it in part to Alex. It was his younger brother who took the first step by abandoning Honda, with which he debuted in the premier prototype class in 2020, to move to the Gresini team’s Ducati in 2023. Thus, he paved the way for Marc, who in just seven races he was able to convince the Bolognese brand to promote him to the official team in 2025, preferring him to Jorge Martin, reigning vice-champion and leader of the standings.
The passage of the #93 for the Faenza team will be short, and now we will have to see what the future holds for Alex Marquez, currently tenth in the general classification and with a fourth position achieved in Jerez as the best result of this season. Of the eight Ducatis on the track, the youngest of the Marquez brothers is sixth in the championship. Of the four who have last year’s Desmosedici, only Marc (third overall) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (ninth) have more points than him.
In a historical moment in which Ducati is the most desired prototype, Alex is confident in being able to prolong his relationship with Gresini, taking into account that there are great possibilities that Pramac will decide to end the relationship with the Borgo Panigale manufacturer and become a satellite team by Yamaha.

In an interview granted to the Spanish broadcast Cadena SER, Marc Marquez defended his brother, ensuring that he has plenty of arguments to prolong his career in MotoGP without him having any influence: “Alex has not entered and will never enter into my negotiations . My brother is fast enough to get a MotoGP on his own, but it’s true that I’m in Gresini with a Ducati thanks to him.”
Once his season is over, Marc will “leave” his brother again, as happened in 2020, when the two were teammates at Honda for just one year: “If he hadn’t taken the step of getting on a Ducati, I would hardly have ended up in Gresini on a Desmosedici. You have a brother and you see his achievements and his happiness. In some way it affects you positively,” explained the eight-time world champion, who analyzed his brother’s change between 2022 and 2023.
In his last season with Honda, with the LCR team, his best result was a seventh place achieved in Portimao. The following season, his first in Gresini, he finished all the races in the top 10 (excluding the unfinished ones) except that of Misano, in which he finished 11th. Furthermore, he won two Sprint races, one in Silverstone and the other in Sepang, while the most sensational Sundays were that of Malaysia, with second place, and that of Argentina, with third. “One year it seemed like he wasn’t up to MotoGP and another year he took poles, podiums and won Sprints,” Marc reflected.
