Liverpool striker Sadio Mane became Senegal’s all-time top scorer after scoring three “hat-trick” goals during their 3-1 victory over Benin on Saturday evening in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Cote d’Ivoire.
Mane scored two goals from two penalty kicks and secured the third goal in Dakar, bringing his tally to 32 goals in 90 matches with his country.
And Mane (30 years) broke the record set by his compatriot Henry Camara, who scored 31 goals for the African champion.
Mane’s achievement came amid growing speculation about his future after another amazing season in Liverpool under German coach Jurgen Klopp.
Mane said that he would leave the decision on his future in the hands of the Senegalese people, amid reports of a possible move to Bayern Munich.
